When I brought a box of this cereal home, I expected it to taste like Honey Nut Cheerios. But as I poured unsweetened almond milk into my bowl of checkered squares, I had a feeling it may be different than I imagined. I envisioned the Honey Bee from “The Other One” as I scooped up a spoonful of right-angled shapes and chewed the sweetened cereal. The crunch sensation brought me back to Christmas when my mother-in-law makes a huge batch of Chex Mix. At 9 grams of sugar per serving, I expected it to taste sweeter than it did, but I also had a stuffy nose from a cold at the time.
I wasn’t that impressed by them, but they definitely had a hint of almond and honey flavor. I also think that if I had used unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead, I would have had a different reaction. My husband had the Gluten-Free Honey Nut Chex Cereal with vanilla milk and he said they tasted like marshmallows. After the Cheerios incident, I have tried to stay away from cereal again. I loved cereal as a child, but I have grown out of the habit in the past two years. I am please to see more and more companies going gluten-free with old favorites. If you like Honey Nut Cheerios and Chex Mix, you may want to give these a try.
